Official score → 14-day plan

When to use this: right after you take an official ETS POWERPREP practice test and want a two-week plan built from your real scores.

You are my GRE coach. Build a 14-day plan from my official practice score.

My scores from an official ETS POWERPREP practice test: Verbal [VERBAL], Quant [QUANT], Writing [WRITING or 'not done'], taken on [DATE].
Weakest areas the score report shows (or my own miss notes): [WEAK AREAS, or "not sure"]
Target: [TARGET]. Test date: [TEST DATE]. Study time: [HOURS PER WEEK] hours a week.

Facts to respect: The GRE General Test has Analytical Writing (one 30-minute Issue essay, scored 0–6), Verbal Reasoning (27 questions in two sections: 12 in 18 minutes, then 15 in 23 minutes) and Quantitative Reasoning (27 questions in two sections: 12 in 21 minutes, then 15 in 26 minutes). Verbal and Quant are each scored 130–170, and the second section of each adapts to your first.

Give me:
1. My gap to the target and which part of the test to prioritise, and why (3 bullets).
2. My top 3 things to fix. For each, one concrete way to practise it with free official material (the two free POWERPREP Online tests and the free ETS GRE practice materials).
3. A day-by-day plan for 14 days that fits my hours, with one official practice checkpoint near the end.
4. Three habits I should stop.

If any of my numbers are missing, ask me for them before you plan. Do not invent scores or score predictions.

GRE General Test printable workbook

The GRE General Test is ETS’s graduate gatekeeping exam: one assessment used by thousands of graduate, business, and law programs worldwide. ETS positions it as an objective read on skills that matter across fields—not a major-specific content dump.

In ETS’s words, the GRE measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing—“skills that have been developed over a long period of time and aren’t related to a specific field of study but are important for all.” That’s why working adults, career-changers, and straight-through seniors all land on the same V / Q / AWA scales.

Scoring Benchmarks

150–154
Around average Verbal/Quant (V/Q) — build accuracy and timing systems
160–164
Competitive for many programs — polish weak question types
165–170
Top band — hard-item stamina + near-zero careless errors

Principles We Will Not Compromise On

  • Official ETS materials (PowerPrep, Official Guide, official practice books) beat random volume when you want a real score check.
  • Practice with today’s shorter section lengths. Old long-GRE books train the wrong speed and the wrong essay count.
  • Section-adaptive means part 1 accuracy matters a lot — do not rush into avoidable early misses.
  • After practice, write what you got wrong and why — that beats only re-reading the answer key.
  • Use free chat prompts to learn skills; check progress on official timed PowerPrep or high-quality timed sections.

Why Your GRE Score Matters

  • GRE scores help programs predict who thrives in grad school
  • Programs usually weigh GRE and undergrad GPA together

Shorter GRE FAQ & Jargon

New to the shorter GRE General Test or decoding V/Q/AWA? Straight answers and a jargon table — current format only (from Sept 2023). ETS’s POWERPREP is score truth; prompts here are the tutor layer between full practice.

What is the shorter GRE (vs the old long GRE)?

Since September 22, 2023 the GRE General Test is about 1 hour 58 minutes: one Analyze an Issue essay, two Verbal sections, two Quant sections. The Argument essay is gone. Do not train a multi-hour classic GRE as current.

Is Analytical Writing (AWA) removed?

No. AWA still exists as one Issue task (30 minutes), scored 0–6. Only the Argument task was removed. Use the AWA? prompt on this hub if you are unsure how many hours Issue deserves versus Verbal and Quant.

How does section-adaptive Verbal/Quant work?

Each measure has two sections. Performance on the first section routes the difficulty of the second. Train section clocks separately (for example Verbal 12Q/18m then 15Q/23m) — never as one merged 27 questions in one block.

How is the GRE scored?

Verbal and Quant each 130–170; AWA 0–6 half-points. Programs weight V/Q differently; some care about AWA floors. POWERPREP and official ETS materials are the honest practice signal.

What is Quantitative Comparison (QC)?

A Quant item type: compare Quantity A vs B (or say the relationship cannot be determined). Common trap zone under time. Drill QC habits, not only standard problem-solving.

What are Text Completion and Sentence Equivalence?

Verbal item types: TC fills blanks in a passage; SE picks two choices that both fit and mean the same. Vocabulary-in-context and structure beat pure flashcard lists.

What is score truth for the GRE?

ETS POWERPREP and official practice. AI helps plan and explain; it does not replace a POWERPREP total. After a report, use the Score Plan prompt on this hub.

Home edition vs test center — does prep change?

Content is the same GRE; logistics differ (room scan, proctoring, equipment). Build the same V/Q/AWA skills, then run a logistics checklist for your modality in the Test Day prompt.

How do TestLessons prompts fit in?

Copy a prompt from the hub, replace each [BRACKETED] part with your real details, and paste it into a major chat assistant. Use Score Plan after an official practice test, Missed Question for an official question you got wrong, Essay Feedback for a timed Issue essay, and Test Day for the final 72 hours. Official practice tests still set your real score.

Should I still practice the Argument essay?

Not for the current General Test. Spend writing time on Issue structure and clarity if AWA matters for your programs; put remaining hours into Verbal and Quant.
