Or enter your section scores (optional). The Enhanced ACT Composite is the rounded average of English, Math and Reading, so if you fill in all three we work it out for you. Science is optional and is not part of the Composite.

Data source
Ranks come straight from ACT's official table: ACT Score National Ranks, 2026–2027 reporting year (PDF) (also on ACT's national ranks page), retrieved November 5, 2026. Data period: tests taken September 2026 – August 2027, based on ACT-tested high school graduates of 2024, 2025 and 2026. A national rank is the percentage of those test takers who scored the same or lower. ACT publishes a new table each year, so check its page for the latest.
Enhanced ACT Facts
- Core test: English (50 questions, 35 minutes), Math (45 questions, 50 minutes) and Reading (36 questions, 40 minutes), about 2 hours 5 minutes in all.
- Science is optional (40 questions, 40 minutes) and writing is a separate option. Neither changes your Composite.
- Each section is scored 1–36. The Enhanced ACT Composite is the rounded average of English, Math and Reading. ACT reports it as interchangeable with the older four-section Composite.
- If you take Science, ACT also reports a STEM score (the average of Math and Science).
Questions
Is a 28 ACT good?
A 28 Composite has a national rank of 91, meaning about 91% of recent ACT-tested graduates scored 28 or lower, per ACT's table. That is a strong score: well above most test takers and in or near the typical range at many selective colleges. The most selective schools usually report higher ranges, and no score guarantees admission anywhere.
How is the Enhanced ACT Composite calculated?
It is the rounded average of your English, Math and Reading scores. Science is optional and is not included. ACT says the new Composite is interchangeable with the older four-section Composite.
Do I need to enter every score?
No. A Composite is enough. Add English, Math and Reading and we work out the Composite for you. Science is optional.
