Module Clock (Each 35 Minutes)

  1. 0–2 min — Breath + first easy bank. Confirm calculator/Desmos opens. Do not open with your hardest fear item.
  2. 2–28 min — Main pass. Mark A/D tool before each solve. Flag only after a real attempt.

Desmos On Every Item

Why The Tempting Path Fails

Tempting path: open Desmos, guess-and-check random list prices, or apply both discounts to the same base ($73 is 80% minus $15 without order). Students also reverse the operations from $73 and forget the percent applies before the flat $15 — or treat 20% and $15 as interchangeable.

Why The Better Path Wins

Model first: let L = list price. After 20% off you have 0.8L, then minus 15: 0.8L − 15 = 73 → 0.8L = 88 → L = 110. Algebra wins in under 30 seconds. Desmos is overkill unless you are graphing a family of functions or solving a messy system.

Keep This Habit

Write the relationship in one line before any gadget. If the line is one linear equation, stay in algebra; save Desmos for intersections, tables, and graphs that actually shorten the work.

10-Minute Module 1 Protection Drill

About 10 minutes · do this tonight

  1. Open Bluebook or Khan Official SAT Practice and pull 6 mixed Math items at or below your comfortable difficulty (not ego-hard). Prefer a mix that could appear on Module 1.
